What do we need to ensure safety?

  • Food safety standards at home
  • Gleaner Training/Manual
  • Spills at gleans
  • No smoking
  • Hand-washing
  • Clean containers
  • Type of containers
  • Educate consumers on home washing
  • Don’t pick up windfalls
  • Test local water and soil to see if safe for irrigation


  • Ask questions concerning ways we’ll be subject to increasingly rigid regulations
  • Important to have internal standard for food safety
  • Encourage training from ODA and WSDA on GAP standards
  • Ensure one gleaner per group has food handlers permit
